Laser Hair Removal

No more shaving, waxing, threading or tweezing and no more ingrown hairs!

IPL Hair Removal:

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is a versatile light-based treatment used in various dermatological procedures, including hair removal. Unlike laser treatments that utilise a single wavelength, IPL employs multiple wavelengths that diffuse through the skin.

How does IPL Work?

IPL targets melanin, the pigment in hair follicles. The light energy is absorbed by the melanin, heating and effectively destroying the hair follicles without harming the surrounding skin. This process prevents hair from regrowing, making IPL hair removal a permanent solution. It’s important to note that while treated hairs will not return, new hair may grow from dormant follicles, although these new hairs are typically finer.

Will IPL treat my hair colour?

IPL is effective on all hair colours except white and grey. Darker hair absorbs more light, making it easier to treat. The treatment can be customised to suit different hair colours, optimising results, it’s also particularly effective in reducing ingrown hairs. The effectiveness of the treatment improves with lighter skin and darker hai

Does laser or IPL hair removal hurt?

The sensation during IPL treatment varies but is often compared to the snap of an elastic band. Most clients find the discomfort to be moderate and tolerable.

What happens during the Consultation Procedure

Our consultation process enables us to explain the treatment, assess you suitability and  to answer any questions you may have. A complete medical questionnaire is taken and we then perform a patch test to ensure you have no adverse reactions to treatments. A consultation fee of £40 is required which is fully refundable against your first treatment.

How should I prepare for IPL Treatment

To prepare for IPL hair reduction, avoid epilation, plucking, shaving, and waxing for up to 4 weeks before your treatment. For your initial consultation and patch test, your hair should be 1 to 2mm in length. Prior to the actual treatment, you should shave the area to be treated.

Skin must be at its natural melanin levels during treatment; therefore, clients must avoid tanning prior to treatment. Avoid tanning and UV light exposure for 1 month before and 1 week after your treatment. If you have any questions about preparation, feel free to contact us for advice.

Is laser or IPL hair removal safer?

IPL hair reduction is generally safe, requiring only protective glasses during treatment. Some clients may experience temporary redness or swelling in the treated area, but these effects typically subside within a few hours. Rarely, minor blisters or temporary changes in skin pigmentation can occur. Most clients experience no side effects.

Which areas can I have treated?

IPL hair removal can be performed on almost any part of the body except the eyes, including:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Underarms
  • Arms
  • Chest
  • Back
  • Legs
  • Feet
  • Bikini
  • Hollywood

How long do Treatments take?

The duration of IPL treatments varies depending on the treatment area. For smaller areas like armpits, the session may take as little as 15-30 minutes. Larger areas, such as full legs, can take up to 60 minutes. The treatment is relatively quick, easy, and painless,  allowing you to return to your daily routine or work immediately after your session.

How many treatments will I need?

Since IPL only affects actively growing hair, multiple sessions are necessary. Treatments are usually scheduled every 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the treatment area. Each client is different, and hair grows differently for everyone. We recommend 6-10 treatments per area to achieve results.

What should I do following treatment?

Most clients do not require post-treatment care. For those with sensitive skin, applying an aloe vera-based product can soothe the treated area. It’s also recommended to avoid direct sunlight on the treated area for a few weeks and to use sunscreen with a protection factor above 30.

If you have any further questions or need guidance on your IPL treatment, please do not hesitate to contact us. We’re here to help you achieve the best possible results with your IPL hair removal.
